ODD EVEN formula in Delhi

Delhi with 75lac odd vehicular population is fast venturing into the list of most hostile cities in the world. Clubbed with the seasonal extreme temperatures Delhi atmosphere is becoming more venerable to live in. Just to quote a small example if you try to walk through the different streets in patelnagar or any other location you can clearly identify that there is little space left after parking cars both sides. The buses, lorries and other public transport vehicles entering NCR are extra.

Adding to this vehicular traffic the smog mixed with the smoke from leaves burnt in and around Delhi make the air more unbreathable. Even though this problem is looming large from some years the severity of the problem is slowly getting realized and accepted.

The AAP sarkar identifying this situation came up proposing ODD-EVEN formula for vehicles plyingo on the Delhi roads. Idea is remove 50% of the vehicles from the roads thus containing carbon emmissions around delhi. The idea was novel but implementation is a challenge as the people of the Delhi first need to embrace this system and include themselves to make a success of the policy.

1st Jan 2016 was the big day for Delhi officials to start with ODD EVEN policy. As the days go forward we will know whether the people of Delhi are really receptive to the Government's call to curb the pollution or they still prefer to live in this toxic atmosphere.

Apart from this ODD EVEN formula Delhi Government should also make a point to announce the daily pollution levels in the city and create awareness to contain the pollution. Though it is a long term challenge it is the citizen of Delhi to understand and empower themselves to combat pollution horror.
